On the week of January 31st 2010 we held a competition to win a copy of Global Agenda on Steam; courtesy of BlueWolf72 who regularly runs a number of his own competitions, including the Comps group on ModDB.
Global Agenda, in the words of PC Gamer Magazine: Repackages the fond, familiar cooperative and mobile combat of TF2 and Tribes with layers of MMO goodness
.
More details about the game can be found on its Steam product page.
The Winners
The joint winners are [s³] Jack and Dasad233 for their entry “Modular Combat Trailer“.
Their entry started as a demo, but ended up being a fan-made trailer for Modular Combat; which came in the form of a video uploaded to YouTube, not a demo. However, it still wins because such a large amount of time was put into it.
We were expecting a few random demos to be entered between around 10 seconds and a few minutes in length. The winning entry goes just a little beyond that. Weighing in at 1 minute 48 seconds long the trailer was edited for three days and had a crew of 5 people who spent around 3 hours filming everything.
It was even featured in a news post on the ModDB profile of Modular Combat.
Other Entries
The winning entry was the only entry; other entries would likely have resulted in a vote between the best demo and the Modular Combat Trailer entry.
Competition Details
NOTE: The competition has ended, details of how to enter only displayed for posterity.
We want you to record a demo in a Valve game or one of the many modifications available for them. Surprise us, make us laugh, whatever. But try to make it fun and/or interesting to watch.
Once you have your demo, enter by sending it attached to an email entitled “Global Agenda Demo Competition” to competitions@podcast17.com telling us:
- The game or mod you used to record the demo.
- If you record the demo in a mod, try to include the version number.
- A link where we can get the mod you used.
- If we can’t get the mod you used, we can’t watch the demo.
- A name for the demo and either your name or an alias you go by.
- For when we announce the winner and post the entries.
- And optionally, a short description of the demo.
In case you don’t know about demos, William has put together a short explanatory video. For a more in-depth explanation, see the Demo Recording Tools page of the Valve Developer Community Wiki.
