I think Iron Grip: The Opression also mixes RTS and FPS. I also remember a zombies based one, Zombie Master maybe? So I think there were other teams trying it.
As for the choice of engines, UDK seems to be a good choice: plenty of community around it, allows monetization.
Maybe you should have talked about some of the stuff on the agenda, you ignored more than half of it which was very disappointing.
Either that or change the agenda. Maybe Move it up to the week after.
